There is nothing like a trip to Logee’s Greenhouse to remind one that spring is just around the corner!
music as language
I just returned home from a great show with my trio. We are preparing to go into the studio in June to make a new record, and this was our first outing as a band to try out the new tunes in front of an audience. Getting up to share a musical conversation with an audience always reveals so much about the music.
The great bass player Victor Wooten loves to think about music in this way. I recently watched his excellent TED talk on the subject again. I have reposted it below. There is a lot of wisdom contained in his words. Every time I watch it, it helps clarify my role as a teacher and a musician.
on working musicians
Lately, I have been thinking about the age-old question, what does it mean to be a practicing artist. Serendipitously, my sister, singer Kim Lamoureux, shared a link to a great blog post about what it means to be a working musician. Jason Parker has some great thoughts here, as well as links to further discussion.
