Salt Lake > Boulder, CO

tp:  Evan and I woke up to the smell of pancakes, bacon,  and sausages cooking.  Ben made us a hearty breakfast to fortify us for a day of driving.  Before we left, he took us on a little tour of the outskirts of Salt Lake, and up into the mountains.  The views were great...it was interesting to see that the ski resort was built on mostly rock.  They get enough snow to make a nice base to ski on, regardless of the actual surface underneath.  After our brief bit of sightseeing, it was time to hit the road.  We had another 8hr day ahead of us.  The drove started out going through the mountains until climbing to about 7,000 feet.  We drove through prairies in Wyoming for most of the day, and didn’t descend from that elevation until we were nearing Colorado.  There was just as much nothing to see as there was on yesterday’s drive.  We didn’t really stop very much.  Our one brief stop was at Little America, which was a huge complex that had a store/gas/hotel/etc.  It was a surprising find for the middle of nowhere.  Nightfall descended and we were once again driving through incredible scenery that we couldn’t see.  We finally arrived at Jason’s house.  Jason is a friend of Evan’s from UVM, and he lives with his identical twin Josh and Josh’s gf Sarah.  We hung out chatting for a bit.  Everyone in the house is into hiking and photography, so we had stories to share and pictures to swap.  They gave us some good ideas for hiking tomorrow, and hopefully we will be able to hike in the rockies a bit.
